An update from Toby

What a strange year 2020 has turned out to be!

Once I returned to work, we had a very busy start to the year. We continued looking after all our lovely County Hearing clients but, something unexpectedly stopped us in our tracks, in the form of lockdown.

In our house, the lockdown started fairly quietly. We took stock of the situation and made sure plans were in place to look after our clients as well as our staff during this difficult time. Like a lot of people, once everything started to quieten down, I had to find a way to make my days productive.

I started by decorating a few rooms in our house, something which had been on my to-do-list for a while, as well as exercising more and making sure I cook for the family more regularly. All of this has allowed me to bring more structure and normality into what is an odd situation for us all. It’s also been a great opportunity to explore more of our surrounding countryside in Saffron Walden.

Having some spare time has also given me a chance to reflect on how important our relationships are, especially at a time when people are feeling vulnerable. My mum is isolating and is usually a social whirlwind, so being stuck indoors is a challenge for her! Luckily, we’re able to have regular conversations as a family through video calls. This personal touch is giving all of our lives a much-needed boost!

Our County Hearing clients have always been our number one priority, though, which is why we’ve been regularly meeting via video conferencing as a team. Not only that, but we’ve also been continuing to speak and learn from our professional bodies and find out more about how we can help with this new public health crisis.
